WHO: Rahul Rathod (23) of Pune, Purvang Mehta (20) of KK Nagar in Ghatlodia and Payank Patel (19), a resident of Nirnaynagar, were arrested by the crime branch. "Rahul is the mastermind, who had planned the loot with the help of other two," a police official said.
THE CRIME: Payank threw chilli powder in the eyes of the driver and later hit him with the butt of an airgun. Purvang later stabbed him around 22 times in his stomach, killing him on the spot, police said. His body was thrown out and the trio escaped in the car towards Jaspur, where Payank lives.
"Later, they decided not to go to Payank's house as their clothes were soaked with blood and they were too scared to drive the car," investigating officer, SJ Thakore said. They took a train to Pune from the Kalupur railway station. "Rahul is a resident of Pune, and had run away from there as he had robbed some TV traders of Rs15 to 20 lakh," a crime branch source said.

Rahul had come to Ahmedabad after committing the crime in Pune. In Ahmedabad, he met Purvang and his friend and all the three later made a plan to earn money. "One among them booked a car with a fake name of Prakash and killed the driver," he said.
