'Family may be good, but Ahuja is not'

shiney_400_02Being a talented actor or acting in critically-acclaimed movies does not make rape accused actor Shiney Ahuja an honourable man, said Oshiwara police in its reply opposing Ahujas bail application.

Ahuja had invoked his respectable family background in his bail application. Ahuja's father is an ex-armyman and his mother was a school teacher, the bail application states.

"His [Ahujas] family may be reputed. But it doesnt reflect on his character," states the five-page reply.

The reply [in Marathi] was filed on Friday by the prosecution. Defence advocate Srikant Shivade sought time to argue and the case has been adjourned till July 7.

Stating that the charge against Ahuja is too grave, the police have said that since he is an influential and famous person, releasing him on bail will have a "negative impact on women".

The bail application spoke of his pending films, including Har Pal, and Accident which are nearing completion. Ahuja had also signed a Hollywood film - Silver Cord - whose shooting was to start soon. He stated that continued detention would cost him his career and losses to his producers.

The police stated that Ahuja needn't worry about losses to his producers since the state has decided to send the case to a fast-track court and hence there would be no delay.

The police also said he was likely to intimidate the victim and witnesses if he is released.
