UAE contributes 500,000 dollars to UN for Bhutto

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) will contribute 500,000 dollars to the United Nations (UN) Trust Fund, for a UN commission enquiry into the former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto's assassination.

Presidential spokesperson, Farhatullah Babar said the UAE Embassy had already informed the Pakistan Foreign Office (FO) of the decision.

The three member UN commission would be headed by Chile's U. N. Ambassador, Heraldo Munoz. The other two members of the commission are the former Indonesian attorney general Marzuki Darusman, and Ireland's former deputy police commissioner Peter Fitzgerald, The News reports.

The commission would only enquire after the facts and circumstances of Bhutto's death.

"Further action against perpetrators would be taken by Pakistan," Babar said.

"The commission is expected to arrive in Pakistan this month and complete its work within six months," he added.

Bhutto was killed on Decmber 27, 2007 in a gun-and-suicide bomb attack while leaving an election rally in Rawalpindi.
