KABUL: A Taliban suicide attack Wednesday on a Kabul guesthouse which killed six foreign staff will not deter the United Nations from fulfilling its work in Afghanistan, the head of the UN's mission said.
"This attack will not, I repeat, will not deter the UN from continuing its work to construct a war-torn country and to build a better future for the Afghan people," Kai Eide told reporters.
"We will remain committed to Afghanistan," he added.
Eide said that "this brutal attack" would trigger a review of security for UN staff. The guesthouse had been approved by the UN for use by its foreign staff after being deemed secure.
"Of course we do constantly review all our security measures," he said. "I will after this incident look at whether further proper measures are required."
The attack comes ahead of a run-off presidential election on November 7 and follows threats by the Taliban against anyone who participates in the electoral process.
