Chennai: Dalits hailing from Chettipulam village near Vedaran-yam in Nagapattinam district, 350 km from Chennai, entered the Kamakshi Amman Sametha Ekambareshwarar temple in Chettipulam on Tuesday in the presence of a huge police posse.
"We hope we'll be allowed to enter the temple more often without such strict security," devotees said. Tension had prevailed on October 14 when a mob opposing the Dalits' entry into the temple clashed with the police.
Following a compromise worked out on September 30, it was agreed that Dalits will be allowed to enter the temple on October 14.
