It was not just Slumdog Millionaire child actor Rubina Ali's desperate e-mail that brought Danny Boyle to Mumbai. The film-maker had other plans too during his visit to the city last week.
He revealed that he wanted to spend some quiet moments with his daughter Caitlin, who has temporarily employed herself in a Mumbai-based NGO.
"Here she is, meet my daughter. She works in Mumbai," said Danny pointing to Caitlin after making sure that no cameras were around to click her photographs. In fact, that was the only request the film-maker made - not to click these photographs.
As a lanky, young girl with a punk highlighted tuft of hair at the front, came and hugged him, Danny said, "I don't get to spend any time with her. I have decided to devote all the time to her when I am in Mumbai. I will be having lunch with her now."
After lunch and post a high-voltage meeting with the Slumdog Millionaire child actors, Danny said he will soon be working with the Indian arm of an international NGO for Mumbai. Danny has decided to work for the cause of child development in the city along with Plan India, an NGO that works to promote Child Rights and improve the quality of life of 'vulnerable children'. Danny had earlier supported the cause of the NGO, but this is the first time that he decided to work for them and even allow his daughter to stay in Mumbai and carry on the work for him.
"This is the city I will have to come in whenever it calls me. I had a very fruitful meeting today with the representatives of Plan India. We have discussed the kind of work we need to do in future. They have a lot of plans and they sound amazing. It was Anil (Kapoor) who mentioned to me about this one and since then the talks have speedily progressed," Danny added, indicating that he will be working for this NGO on the sidelines when he comes back to Mumbai to shoot his next flick with Anurag Kashyap. Anil Kapoor is the goodwill ambassador for the NGO.
So is it true that both Rubina and Azhar have been offered roles in his movie based on Suketu Mehta's Maximum City.
"They are always a part of the team. They are a part of the family and we are always there for them. I will be having a few more rounds of meetings with Anurag (Kashyap)," is all he said with his trademark smile.

It's Aamir, not Shah Rukh
In spite of reports that both Danny Boyle and Paul Schrader has approached Shah Rukh Khan to do his film, both the directors indicated that they are vying to get his screen rival, Aamir Khan. Aamir has shown keen interest in both the projects and has asked for a bound script from both of them. There have been no negotiations on the price. Both the directors have not given Shah Rukh a call.
