The army foiled a major infiltration bid, third in the past six days, killing three militants on the line of control (LoC) in Tangdhar sector of Kupwara district in north Kashmir on Tuesday.
Lieutenant colonel JS Brar, the defence spokesman in Srinagar, said following specific information, troops fortified along the LoC on Monday night. "Contact was established this [Tuesday] morning and a militant was killed. In the ensuing gun battle, two more ultras were gunned down," he said.
The operation was under way at the time of going to press, with the army combing the area for more ultras. "Our operation is still on," Brar said.
This is the third infiltration bid in less than six days in north Kashmir. On October 29, troops killed an infiltrator in Tangdhar sector. A day later, another infiltration bid was foiled in neighboring Keran in which two militants, including a Pakistani army soldier, were killed.
