An Alliance Air airhostess who alleged sexual harassment by Captain Devi Sharan, filed a complaint with the National Commission for Women (NCW) on Tuesday demanding an independent probe.
Simrath Chopra called the airline management biased as it has not taken any action against Captain Devi Saran. "It is very disturbing to see the management being so biased and not taking any action against Captain Devi Saran," she said.
The airline had categorically rubbished the allegations levelled by the airhostess. It said the alleged sexual harassment took place 13 years ago and so did not merit any probe.
"I will fight tooth and nail against Captain Devi Saran, who thinks a woman is just an object to be used. I want the management to take action against him," she said.
Regarding the departmental probe initiated against her, she said, "I have been part of the management and know how to get cases against people who are not toeing the management line. The enquiry has come up only after the management received my complaint."
Simrath had filed the complaint in July after Captain Devi Saran allegedly began troubling her. "I was in-flight service head in Alliance Air and after 17 years of service downgraded to senior cabin crew. He did it because I had objected to his advances. I want the management to answer why it allowed this to happen," she said. Airline sources told DNA that several posts would be curtailed in the ongoing integration of Alliance Air, Air India, Indian Airlines and Air India Express. "There is nothing wrong in abolishing posts in different departments when two or more airlines are merging," a senior airline official said.
