'Identify the truth' this holy message of the first guru of the Sikhs, Guru Nanak Dev was propagated by the Shri Guru Singh Saba Gurudwara. "The light of God is in all our hearts," said Datawar Singh, president of one of the largest gurudwara in Kalyan-Dombivli area. He added, "We are trying to inculcate the guru's teaching in the minds of children by teaching them to serve the ill, respect everybody irrespective of their social condition. Another important lesson is to fight against injustice, even if it is being meted to others."
On the auspicious day of the birth of the guru, the shrine conducts community kitchen (langar) meant for everybody irrespective of their caste, creed and religion.
This idea of community kitchen was conceptualised by the guru himself in order to eradicate class differences prevalent at those times. In addition to the ideals of equality, the tradition of langar expresses the ethics of sharing, community inclusiveness and oneness of all humanity.
The festivities began with the Nagar Kirtan like every year. The community also celebrates the birth anniversaries of other gurus with equal zeal.
This year the Thane collector Abasaheb Jarhad also sought blessings along with innumerable devotees from all over Kalyan, Dombivli and Ulhasnagar.
The funds collected by the shrine is utilised for various social purposes including the school and junior college run by the gurudwara management.
Several other events for the betterment of society and underprivileged students were also conducted by the gurudwara.
