Indian movie wins award at NY film fest
Raat Gayi Baat Gayi, a film whose plot is similar to that of Hollywood comedy Hangover, has won the best film award at HBO's New York South Asian International Film Festival, 2009.
Pritish Nandy, the co-maker of the movie, said, "The movie has a strong, original narrative that does not stray into silly digressions like most other Bollywood films. It is entertaining without being gross or stupid. It challenges the formula flick and yet is well within the popular, commercial movie genre."
Co-producer Shailendra Singh of Percept Picture Company said, "Our film is not a copy of Hangover. The fact that it has been accepted in the same country (USA) where Hangover was made proves that it's not a copy."
Pritish added, "In fact, it was written before Hangover. It went on the floors long before Hangover happened here. But yes, it is about what happens when you drink too much at a party and can't remember what happened when you wake up the next morning."
