ACB traps police constable
The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB), on Friday, trapped a police constable from Nerul police station for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs12,000 from a Mumbra resident.
According to ACB office, Keshav Vikram Patil, a police constable with Nerul police station, had called Murtuza Muslim Patanwala, 27, a businessman in Mumbra to the police station for the inquiry of a wanted accused Aman Sheikh. When Murtuza came to the police station, Patil allegedly told him that his SIM card was being used by Aman Sheikh. He allegedly threatened him of arrest, if he failed to bring Murtuza to the police station and reportedly demanded Rs15,000 as bribe to avoid the arrest. Petrified Murtuza allegedly paid Rs4,000 immediately to Patil and assured to pay the balance amount on Friday. Acting on his complaint, the ACB trapped Patil at the Nerul Police station.
Truck runs over youth
A 19-year-old youth died as a truck ran over him at Wagle Estate in Thane on Friday morning.
According to police, the youth Manoj Ramlal Gupta, a resident of Sathenagar, was on his way to Indiranagar for some personal work on his bike. While passing by the Ambewadi area on road number 33, a speedy truck loaded with bricks, collided with him from behind. Consequently, Manoj fell down and the rear wheels of the truck passed over him. He was immediately taken to a hospital where he was declared dead before arrival. Police has arrested truck driver Parshuram Chavan, 40, resident of Bhiwandi. Police sub inspector DY Jadhav is investigating further.
