Head: Senior citizens get help at hand

Senior citizens from Ambernath and its surrounding areas can heave a sign of relief with the inauguration of Ambernath Chapter of Dignity Foundation.
The Dignity Foundation is a Mumbai-based NGO working for the welfare of senior citizens since 1995. The foundation set up its centre in Ambernath since 2004.
The Ambernath Chapter of Dignity Foundation was inaugurated on November 19 in Ambernath East. Virendra Gujar, head of Dignity Foundation's Ambernath chapter said, "The chapter will enable help us to enrich the lives of senior citizens in the area as we can conduct various activities for them."
Senior citizens who are battling loneliness will have something to cheer about. The Ambernath chapter has also started an interactive and recreational sessions for senior citizens called 'Chai Masti'. The session is for two hours on all weekdays between 4-7pm.
Along with the inauguration of the chapter, it also launched Dignity Donor Privilege Card (DDPC) concept. Gujar said, "The card holder can earn benefit from discounts at various private hospitals, medical shops, ambulance services, opticians, hearing aids, restaurants, tours and travel firms and consumer durables companies."
Under the chapter activities and DDPC holders can avail various health check-ups, free legal advice by professionals and team of dedicated social volunteers to assist the aged.
Under the centre's activities since 2004 it helped in distributing 7,000 senior citizen cards in Ambernath and Badlapur till date. The centre has also been running a 24-hour helpline for senior citizens since 2004.
