Dowry harassment of men!

Monday, June 10 2002 20:10 Hrs (IST)

The public opinion 'Dowry harassment of men' received a number of peculiar responses of men supporting women and women supporting men from the browsers of Indiainfo.com. Given below is a sample of the reaction. You are welcome to send your reactions on the reactions to editor@team.indiainfo.com.

Brickbats

I don't say such cases don't exist. But they are only one in lakh as per my experience. Being a guy they should be able to handle it themselves rather than roaming around as aggrieved males.

In my opinion, it is one way better to have such kinds of experiences once in a while to the so called groom and his family so that people will not dare to indulge in dowry harassment of poor innocent girls. - B Ramanathan

It's not a question of male/female dowry. It's also a question of justice. Now had a woman been pursuing a case for seven years to prove her victimisation, why doesn't anybody bother then? Would not the woman also be a nervous wreck pursuing a case for 7 years, why isn't her side being told?

In any case the majority of the victims are women. So do we need a special Act for men. A Law is a Law and it cannot be helped. Tomorrow we will start saying that we need a Law for ADAM TEASING!!! What next? - Lakhvinder Singh Batolar

I don't understand why people say that its better to have this experience by groom so that they have a lesson, I think my friend has not understood the moral of the article, Every Law is made for protection, but this Law is really being misused in modern cities.

And we cannot say that because majority of the victims are women, we can ignore men. Our Constitution itself says that it’s better to let a criminal go rather than penalising an innocent.

Do my friends mean to say that so victimised men have no right to live or no right to justice.

What I wanted to say was we need to monitor this Law carefully so that no one misuses it. - Sandeep M

I was just going through this article "Dowry law", really, I was so surprised and astonished to know, that today it was the male segment, that grieved much more than the females.

Unlike before, gone are the days, when females were perpetually complaining. Liberalisation has brought women to such a juncture, that it is been quite difficult to judge them… arrogance and obstinacy has risen among them.

Take for instance, this MTech guy, who had to undergo the ignominy of serving in jail, for no fault of his, and because of this trauma, today he has become a drug addict, nervous wreck, and burden to his parents, just imagine the plight of his parents.

My strong opinion is, such disgusting females and their parents should be brought to the limelight, dealt with severely and no mercy should be shown to them. They should be made an example, so that no other girls' parents dare to repeat such acts.

In today's world at least, it is better to remain a bachelor, because marrying probably causes you to lose your parents. I have seen several number of examples.

That is why I have always remained a bachelor, you would be happy and hassle free of family burdens. - Suresh Nair

This is true. Almost all the laws meant for protection for woman is misused now. Actually I know a lot of instances of harassment by woman, but the society thinks it is just a funny thing.

And when the woman becomes the victim some so-called intellectuals come out with a whole lot of nonsense. I think in India men are discriminated in some cases like this. This is against our Constitution which proclaims equal rights.

We must look in to the matter first and then decide. If a man can be booked under a Law just because some woman blames him it is the failure of Law & Constitution and the success of some wicked woman and people with ulterior motives. - Genevieve
