Innocent lives price of India's docility
By Sandeep Krishnan
Monday, June 17 2002 12:15 Hrs (IST)

I personally believe in the Gandhian policy of 'Ahimsa' (non-violence). But as is customary of the ways of the world, there is nothing absolute. And almost certainly the present situation that our country finds itself in, is no exception. Innocent people are paying the price of our docility.

I am not trying to whine and be critical of governmental policies. I am not even trying to be in any sense partisan. In fact, it is my belief that had it been any other party up there in the 'hot' seat, the situation would have been hardly different.

The 'politics' of our country has deteriorated to such an extent that I don't think anybody can salvage any semblance of sanity from this establishmental abyss. I would like to point out that the usage of the word 'politics' is intentional and not intended to replace the much worn phrase 'political situation'.

This is the old cause and effect routine again. A situation is derived form its causal factors and in this case - the unhealthy outlook of segregation that form the very substance of the political pathos prevalent in our country.
