As far as Indian ethos goes, pre-marital sex is a forbidden fruit, a sinful indulgence, a
total no-no. There are those of us in society who would rather live in oblivion to the fact
that it is happening and is closer to the neighborhood than they think it is.
In fact, it might be happening in your own home and you probably won't know... until it
becomes too 'obvious'. The sooner you wake up to reality the better it is. With societal
behaviours constantly changing, the younger generation is more open to the idea of
pre-marital sex than a decade or two back.
Flip through distress columns and it would take you less than a glance to notice that
most queries are from teenagers and it's all about the emotional entrapments of being
involved with another. So, is having sex really about making love?
Though there are traditional disparities within our society, the truth is if an individual
decides to consciously make a decision then it will happen. As concerned adults, parents
can on their part counsel children and let them know the pros and cons of being sexually
active.
So, then comes the question is there really a right or a wrong to it. In my opinion, the
true decision depends on the individual's moral beliefs and the comfort level that he or
she may share with the partner. When a person decides to take the step and move on to
a level of intimacy, it’s their business and choice. I don't think anybody else has a right
to question that.
Perhaps the most common reason used to justify pre-marital sexual activity is that the
sex drive is a basic biological one. Everyone's doing it, so why not me? Though our
society sets standards, when it comes to relationships outside the institution of
marriage, those standards are subject to change to the whim and will of the individual.
And why not?
Every normal person has the desire to know and be known, to love and be loved. It's only
natural that when you are in a relationship with someone you love so totally and it's
reciprocated that you want to give it your all. The fact is, it's happening today whether
one likes to accept it or not.
