New vistas of info: Inter-link schools on Net
By Amod Karve
I was recently browsing through the list of affiliated schools on the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Website. I observed that most of the schools that were listed had a vsnl.net.in e-mail ID.
Not that I have anything against the VSNL email ID's but isn't it sad, that there is no national network infrastructure for inter-connecting educational institutions across the country. We still think of the Internet/Intranet in terms of e-mail. Sad, but true.
Connect all the educational nodes and what do you get - a huge knowledge base across the country. Peer to peer communication could not get better had there been
a national (at least regional) network in place.
I know there are a lot of schools that still do not have the basic infrastructure, but that's no reason to sit back. Let's start with those that have the infrastructure and see the results.
Students/teachers would be able to share ideas/thoughts/articles freely across this secure network. The network would provide the students with a wider playing field and would open more avenues for the school to develop itself as an institution. The
possibilities are endless.
