Gujarat is the beginning of the end for the BJP. The state may have a long and sad history of socially unacceptable politics and criminal cover up under shield by elected representatives, but the recent happenings (that is still to end) are beyond humane comprehension.
While the entire media is united in its intent to lift the manhole cover on this sewer of injustice, needless suffering, and unnecessary deaths that the world is witnessing at Gujarat, the lack of political will at the center , more specifically the office of the Prime Minister is nerve-racking.
BJP embracing a relationship with Mayawati perhaps says it all. The party has lost all its morality and is only concerned about staying in power, come what may. It was the same party that accused the Congress of forging what it called 'post poll alliances' to form governments. Well, it was still a power hungry Congress that provided the nation with amazing economic progress and though I am no advocate to the Sonia cause they are still better than a bunch of mass murderers.
Clearly, the BJP is a confused lot that has run out of ideas. "Ram" did not sell this time in UP, they are in power at just of handful of states and desperately need a USP (unique selling proposition) for the next general elections. Religious fervor is the only mantra they know to chant when in trouble. They did just that and chose Gujarat to test market it. The BJP think tank did not expect it to become what it has. And evidently, there were many within the BJP with their own agendas.
I would still like to believe the Prime Minister as an individual is not a happy man, but what I don't believe is that his hands are tied. He needs to wake up and realize that it is he who is allowing his hands to be tied and can break free if he wishes to. He needs to realize that while the BJP may win politically at Gujarat and sections are seeing Modi as the flag bearer of Hindus, the price we are paying is huge. It is India's pride in front of the world.
The way things have shaped up for the BJP, the next general election is a battle they have lost long before it is announced. Sonia can start lining up her potential Prime Ministerial candidates.
Two smart men from this tainted ship, though, will win for themselves, Ram Vilas Paswan, Omar Abdullah. Clever men. Good sense of timing.
