Current Topic: Islamic terrorism in India?
VHP actions are reactions to deeds of Islamic terrorists
Islamic terrorism is not something new - it has been there for Centuries. In India, rather than worrying
about terrorism from outside the country, we have to worry about the terrorists among us.
Its despicable that though the Indian land is providing food and shelter to people, a
section of them behave with so much animosity. Calling Vishwa Hindu Parishad
(VHP) as terrorists is of no use - for they are reactions to the actions committed
by Islamic terrorists.
Once the Islamic terrorism stops, VHP and others will keep quiet (but it's not true
the other way). It's unfortunate that Indians have not galvanised themselves to
facing this challenge!
By the by, I have a question in my mind for a long time - Why is it that when a big
chunk of land was carved for Muslims, we still have a big population of Muslims
(more than that of Pakistan!) in India? – Reju, Bangalore, India
99 per cent terror attacks done by Islam followers!
Nobody can deny the fact that 99 per cent of terrorist attacks in the world, let it be in Asia, Europe, Africa or USA, are carried out by people believing in Islam.
Then what is wrong in calling Islamic Terrorism as "Islamic Terrorism"? Our Muslim friends should look into the facts before expressing their grievances. – John Mathew, Dubai, United Arab Emirates
Islamic terrorists fight for nothing except 'Jihad'
This is in reply to Khan's reaction. Maoists are called MAOISTS because they believe in Maoist policies. LTTE cadres are called Tamil guerillas because they believe in installing a government for Tamils in Sri Lanka.
IRA is called IRA because it is fighting for Irish independence from Britain. This terrorism is called ISLAMIC TERRORISM because it has nothing fighting for except religion and 'jihad' - Sreedhar, New York, USA
Fundamentalists must stop killing innocent Hindus
I request the Islamic fundamentalists to stop killing innocent Hindu people. Everybody knows that Muslim sentiments were hurt by the Hindu fanatic's led by VHP, Bhajarang Dal and RSS elements.
If you want to take revenge against hurting your sentiments, go and fire the people who are responsible for hurting your sentiments, if at all you have guts to do that. - Reddy, San Francisco, USA
Know facts before making 'wild' statements
It's interesting to note that the Muslims still blame Hindu fundamentalism in Gujarat as one of the reasons why Muslims are feeling insecure in India when the very reason why it happened is ignored.
Please know your facts right dear Muslim readers. Hindus were killed in a Hindu country by Muslim fundamentalists just because they were Hindus. Nothing could be worse. - Bhaskar, Dayton, USA
VHP, Bajrang Dal have to be measured by same yardstick
I cannot comprehend the usage of the term "Islamic Terrorism in India". Are
there no other form of terrorism in India? Are the elements like VHP and
Bajrang Dal any less terrorists than the Islamic terrorists you are referring
to?
Are they any less of a nuisance, obviously not going by their track record.
All of them have to be measured by the same yardstick and dealt with in a
uniform fashion. – Shanti Sam, New Delhi, India
Islamic terrorism and Islam as terrorism: Rid both
There are two important issues here - Islamic terrorism and Islam as terrorism. A religion which intrinsically can support ideas such "jihad" is a menace in itself. Its perpetrators form a vicious plague that is killing millions world over and needs to be dealt with firm conviction and force.
Its high time both issues are addressed not just by India but by the entire world community. If sustained development is the goal, then these two dangerous diseases affecting the world today need to be eradicated! - Karthik Madhava, Bangalore, India
India should be firm, stop acting with kid gloves
The title "Islamic Terrorism" is inappropriate. It gives an impression that terrorism is sanctioned by Islam. It is not. No religion can propagate terrorism. On the other hand the perpetrators of terrorism are Muslims who deserve to be condemned for all their horrific actions.
Those responsible for acts of terrorism in India have sold their bodies and souls to our enemies - the Pakis. As long as the Indian government handles the issue of terrorism with kid gloves, the situation would remain unchanged.
All our initiatives have failed to make Pakistan see reason. The medicines have not had any effect on this prolonged ailment. It is now time for surgery - the quicker, the better. - Saleem Masood, Bangalore, India
Nip all forms of extremism in the bud
Although there is no clear demarcation of Islamic terrorism or extremism, Islamic extremism is now a widely acknowledged term - especially in the West. By the light of past, Islamic extremism has proved to espouse the most inhumane tenets and beliefs, which ensued inconceivable and heinous acts against innocent civilians.
India is a secular country and gave shelter to myriad of religions for ages. And one must confess that people of different religions lived in India with peace and harmony. Only in the past few years the winds have started blowing opposite.
Frenzied religious extremists, across the borders, found a way to spread the religious venom to the gullible Muslim youth. In India, the vortex of Islamic terrorism is not alone inspired by the cross-border conflicts or geopolitical elements.
Under influences, however, the Muslim minority found solace in religion, and filled the vacuum of poverty, rejection, lack of proper education and insecurity with religion. Symptoms of Islamic religious fervour have recently got transpired from the recent incidents in Gujarat and elsewhere.
If not dealt diligently, these minor symptoms may gradually fester the entire social harmony. Indian government must recognise the exigency and nip all forms of extremism in the bud, or risk dire consequences. - Neeraz Manthena, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia
Stop this shameful act of blaming others
We Indians are just blaming Pakistan but not doing anything about it. It is disgusting now to hear every time the government saying that the attacks in India are sponsored by the Pakis or by Pakistan based militants. I can understand we fail many times in combating terrorism but aren't we shameless to say the same reason all the time.
This one of the reasons that the world stopped listening to our views on the issue. We should first clear out the militants within the nation, I mean those people within the BJP or Congress or regional parties before blaming the government in neighbouring countries. Let us clean our backs and then blame others. - Jagaraj G N, Singapore
No religion has supported terrorism at its heart
At its heart, no religion has ever supported terrorism. "Religion has always contributed to the welfare and progress of individuals and masses at various times in different places."
Hence it would be absurd to associate an act of terrorism with some religion. What is more ludicrous is that the acts of Babri Masjid demolition or the most recent killings in Gujarat become mere Hindu outrage when even a diminutive bungle by some Javed or some Firoz in a caliphate are referred to as Islamic terrorism.
History of terrorism in India dates back to 1940s. It would be derisory to discuss the topic without discussing the history of terrorism in India and involvement of terrorist groups into it, which became predominant in early 1980s.
However, I would not digress at this point. Fanatics have not been virgin to humanity. They have been part of nations, religions and civilisations. There are Jewish fanatics in Israel, Orthodox fanatics in Russia, Christian fanatics in Europe and the US, Hindu fanatics in India. So are the Islamic fanatics.
The intensity of social phobia of these fanatics and their span of operation may vary, but these distinctions do not occlude their existence as fanatics. - Ankur Mehta, Norfolk Country, United States of America
Why add a religious tag to terrorism?
Terrorists are terrorists, why attach the tag of Islam to them. What would you call the insane mob of Gujarat... Hindu terrorists... No because what these guys are doing is just not acceptable to any religion, be it Islam or any other.
Islam condemns all kinds of violence to innocents and it is very unfair or rather abusive to call these guys Islamic terrorists. - Tariq, Toronto, Canada
Militants are militants, they don't have a religion
Militants are militants, they do not have a religion. I feel the whole issue of terrorism as seen in a religious context is very wrong. We must accept that militants have nothing to do with religion.
why don't people call Maoist as Hindu militants. Why don't people call LTTE as a Hindu terrorist . This is called as double standards of the world community. Why doesn't the British call IRA as a Christain terrorist. we must separate religion from terrorism. I hope people will realise this. - Khan, Bangalore, India
Time ripe for India to take bold initiatives
It's been a long and bloody decade in Kashmir, the violence has been escalating from 1989 virtually turning the Earth's paradise into "Burning Hell". After repeated attempts on Indian pride, one wonders all over the world, why India is not seeking a permanent end to this problem.
Why is the Indian government afraid of taking any bold step against militants or the countries that support them. The Indian people are right behind the Indian government waiting for a concrete measure. It appears as if these incidents are just petty issues for the Indian government, more than 60,000 have been killed in Kashmir valley for the past 10 years including civilians and military personnel.
Why are we losing our people and military, there are a huge number of questions to be answered by the Indian government which boasts of having renowned spokespersons. Wake up India, wakeup, if India is a land of peace let it be, but when one questions the sovereignity of India reply hard so that they never dare to do that again. People are behind your any step to suppress terrorism, be bold to take the steps. - Vinod Kaky, Chicago, USA
They are not mere militants, they are Islamic terrorists!
I believe the Islamic terrorists (they are not militants; so stop
calling them as mere militants) are bent upon destroying India as a
united country and civil society. No sane person can reach a common
ground or compromise with them.
These guys are not going to reform and blend in with the society. In
fact, any concessions towards them will be interpreted as cowardice on
the part of the government, which will embolden the so called
"militants"!
The Indian government and in fact the civilised world should apply the
Islamic law when dealing with these bigots that is to chop off their
hands or legs with which they terrorise innocent men, women and
children. - Pramod Thanedar, Detroit, USA
Strong, decisive measure never India's forte!
"Are militants taking advantage of India's de-escalation to unleash
fresh terror attacks?" What a question! Of course they are. A bold,
strong and decisive measure has never been India's forte. But there are
a few shining examples during past 50 years.
Pandit Nehru's actions in Nepal in getting rid of Ranas, the hereditary
Prime Ministers of Nepal. Indira Gandhi's bold action in the demise of
East Pakistan and gestating the birth of Bangladesh. Can anybody tell me
why is it that Pakistan can down Indian jet (Pokran affair) and the
Chinese are able to shoot down American plane but whither India?
India should have a very long-term plan for bifurcating Pakistan in two
or even three different states and should secretly pursue various plans
viz diplomatic, aggressive border policy backed by a high tech defence
force. - Jyoti Kundu, Kirn, UK
