New Delhi: A meeting of the Cauvery River Authority (CRA), which was abruptly put
off in November 2002, is likely to be convened on January 13 to discuss the water-
sharing dispute between Karnataka and Tamil Nadu.
"There is a proposal to convene the meeting on January 13 but the final decision is
yet to be taken," sources in the Water Resources Ministry said.
The last CRA meeting scheduled on November 29 was postponed following the inability
of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to attend it due to indisposition.
Kerala Chief Minister A K Anthony also could not attend the meeting.
A minimum quorum of three Chief Ministers was required for holding the CRA meeting,
to be chaired by Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee. Chief Ministers of four
riparian states – Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and Kerala are members.
The Supreme Court had asked the Prime Minister to convene the CRA meeting and
resolve the dispute.
