Bangalore: Karnataka stopped release of Cauvery waters to Tamil Nadu from the
Krishnarajasagar (KRS) reservoir on November 3, Minister for Information Kagodu
Thimappa said.
Briefing reporters after a Cabinet meeting on November 4, Thimappa said
as ordered by the Supreme Court, the government had taken steps to
ensure 9,000 CUSECS flow to Mettur dam but since the water flow was
higher between KRS and Mettur in the intermediate range, there was no
need to release water.
The Cabinet also decided to seek an immediate convening of the Cauvery
River Authority (CRA) meeting, he said, adding that Chief Minister S M
Krishna would write a letter to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee, who is
the CRA chairman, in this regard.
The Cabinet, he said, however decided to comply with the Supreme Court
order "in letter and spirit" and added that the flow of 9,000 CUSECS daily
till November six, as ordered by it would be ensured.
The Cabinet did not discuss the issue of convening an emergent session
of the legislature to discuss the Cauvery issue, he said.
