Tuesday, June 8 2004 15:52 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Karnataka today (June 8, 2004) asserted that there was no question of immediate release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu and denied that there was any request from the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to this effect.

"There is no communication as of now on water release. However, a communication has been received to the effect that a delegation of Tamil Nadu led by Union Minister T R Baalu would visit here to hold talks," senior Minister P G R Sindhia said.

The delegation would be calling on Chief Minister N Dharam Singh and Deputy Chief Minister Siddaramaiah and they would hear them, he said.

Sindhia said the question of release of water does not arise now as "our farmers were also in distress".
