New Delhi: After months of bitter wrangling, Karnataka on January 13 agreed to release 1,200 CUSECS of Cauvery water per day to Tamil Nadu till February-end to save the long-term samba rice crop in the state.

A decision to this effect was taken at an official-level meeting soon after Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna gave an assurance to Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee of releasing "some water" to Tamil Nadu as a "goodwill gesture".
