Cauvery row: Prohibitory orders imposed in B'lore
Tuesday, October 29 2002 11:01 Hrs (IST)

Bangalore: Prohibitory orders were clamped in the city for three days from October 29 in the wake of threats by some pro-Kannada outfits to launch protests against release of Cauvery water to Tamil Nadu, police said.

Imposed under Section 144, the orders are in force from 06:00 hours (IST) on October 29 morning to the midnight of October 31, they said.

Police said that miscreants attempted to set fire to a private bus from Salem in Bangalore on October 28 night. The rear tyre was set on fire but it was immediately doused. A Tamil Nadu lorry was also stoned, they said.

Amidst protests from farmers' bodies and some Kannada protagonist organisations, Karnataka has been releasing water to Tamil Nadu from KRS reservoir in Mandya district since October 27 night following a decision taken by the state council of ministers, a day before the Supreme Court took up the contempt of court case against Chief Minister S M Krishna and others.
