Haryana, founded in the year 1966 is a popular industrial State. It was formed after being bifurcated from the former State of Punjab. Haryana and Punjab still share the same capital city of Chandigarh.

Haryana with the upcoming cities and extended green fields is both the oldest and most modern of places in India.

The present day Haryana is the region where, along the banks of the River Saraswati, the Vedic Civilisation began and matured. It was here that the Vedas were written, as the Aryans chanted their sacred Mantras. Replete with myths and legends, Haryana's 5000-year-old history is steeped in glory.

The present Government of Haryana is headed by Om Prakash Chautala, son of a noted leader Devi Lal. The main Opposition parties are Congress, BJP and HVP (Haryana Vikas Party).

Chauthala took oath as Chief Minister of Haryana for the fifth time on March 2, 2000. Chauthala is the head of Indian National Lok Dal.
