Jharkhand, carved out of the State of Bihar, is perhaps the richest Indian State today with all the mineral wealth and being an abundant storehouse of natural resources.
November 15, 2000 - the date when Jharkhand officially came into existence, will be written in golden words by the people, whose long cherished dream of a separate State was fulfilled by the then NDA Government.
Jharkhand, which boasts of characteristic cultural traditions, mostly comprises of the forest tracks of Chhotanagpur plateau and Santhal Pargana.
At present, the State Government is headed by NDA (BJP, JDU & Independents), while the main Opposition parties are the JMM, Congress and RJD.
This election will be an acid test for the Arjun Munda-headed Government. Will he come back for a second term or will he lose out to Sibu Soren, the acclaimed chief of JMM.
