New Delhi: Congress president Sonia Gandhi today (May 19, 2004) made it clear that there is no question of going back on the decision not to accept Prime Ministership, party sources said.

The sources said Gandhi had told some senior party leaders that in the Nehru-Gandhi family when a decision is taken it is taken and it is not changed.

Gandhi had yesterday declined to accept the post of the Prime Minister, listening to her "inner voice" and declared that her decision was final, even as MPs pressed asking her to take back her decision at the Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) meeting.

Meanwhile, a process has begun in the Congress to authorise Gandhi to take a decision on the CPP leadership that was in the best interest of the country and party.

As part of the exercise Congress MPs from Maharashtra met at a meeting convened by Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde and requested Gandhi to take back her decision.

"Reiterating the resolution passed by the CPP requesting Gandhi to reconsider her decision, we do hereby authorise her to take a decision in the best interest of the country and the party," the resolution passed by them stated.

Shinde said several Ministers from Maharashtra had told him that they are submitting their resignation to him if she did not reconsider her decision.

He said MPs had said at the CPP meeting itself that they would resign.
