PM meets Sonia to discuss Cabinet meet issues

New Delhi: Prime Minister Manmohan Singh had an hour-long meeting with Congress Parliamentary Party (CPP) chairperson Sonia Gandhi on the issues to be taken up at the first meeting of the Union Cabinet scheduled this afternoon (May 23, 2004).

Sources indicated that the Cabinet is likely to discuss the dates of the first session of the 14th Lok Sabha.

The meeting was attended by several Cabinet Ministers and senior party leaders including Pranab Mukherjee, Ghulam Nabi Azad, Ahmed Patel, Ambika Soni and R K Dhavan.

They are also understood to have discussed the last minute hitches that cropped up in the allocation of portfolios to newly appointed Ministers in the Manmohan Singh Government.

The Cabinet is also likely to review the security situation in Jammu and Kashmir in the wake of killing of 28 Border Security Force personnel in a landmine blast on the Srinagar-Jammu highway this morning.
