Terrorism has struck the world over, from Africa, Asia, Eurasia, and Europe to Latin America and the Middle East. Nearly six weeks after the terrorist attacks on the twin towers in the US, President Bush signed the Anti -terrorism bill. The US attacks by terrorists, is believed to have been sponsored by Saudi businessman Osama bin Laden, who bombed the World Trade Center and the Pentagon. He is amongst FBI's most wanted terrorists. Official sources claim that reports from the Arab intelligence agencies have revealed that one of the suicide hijackers had trained at the al-Farooq camp in Afghanistan, from where only Kashmiri fighters emerge as battle-hardened combatants of the Indian security forces. If proved, this would also be the first clear link between Bin Laden and the Kashmiri jehadis. The attacks on Oct 1 on the J&K secretariat which claimed 38 lives was termed by LK Advani as " an assault on the commitment of the people of J&K to democracy, secularism and unity with India. Maulana Masood Azhar, chief of Jaish -e-Mohammed is now seen on par with Osama bin Laden. |

The Hizb-ul Mujahideen was founded in 1989 as the militant wing of the Jamaat-e-Islami, a socio-cultural and religious organization of Jammu and Kashmir. It was originally termed Al Badr but was soon renamed as the Hizb-ul Mujahideen. The Jamaat-e-Islami is reported to have set up this terrorist front at the prodding of ISI, as an Islamic counter to the JKLF, which is secular terrorist outfit with an indigenous cadre base. Thousands of innocent people dying at the hands of terrorist attacks and encounters, the world continues to watch even as the full-fledged groups are operational all over the world.
