Another Gulf war was fought!! This time it was Bush Jr. waging a war against the
same Saddam Hussein whom Bush Sr, had defeated more than a decade ago. The major cause
for a war as put forth by Bush was that Iraq, under Saddam Hussein, possessed
deadly weapons of mass destruction (WMD). The war was fought even as UN weapons
inspectors were busy probing every nook and corner of Iraq in search of
WMDs. Bush along with allies (UK, Spain and Belgium) began the war after the
expiry of deadline given by US to Saddam Hussein to leave Iraq or face
military action.
US invasion of Iraq (even after the war US and its allies could not find a single WMD) faced vociferous opposition from a host of
nations including France, Germany, Russia and China. These nations term the
US decision as against UN charter that would undermine the importance of UN
as a global body for world peace. |
