Bangalore: Karnataka and Tamil Nadu police are questioning a labourer who was reportedly asked by
forest brigand Veerappan's gang to supply rice to them in the jungles on the border of the two
states.
Karnataka Home Minister Mallikarjun Kharge denying reports that Selvam, a labourer with a grain
merchant, was kidnapped, told reporters in Bangalore that Selvam had clarified that he was not
abducted.
Kharge's clarification came in the wake of reports that said that a grain merchant had been kidnapped
by the Veerappan and his gang from a village in Tamil Nadu bordering the state.
He said a joint strategy was being worked out by the police of both states to hunt Veerappan.
Meanwhile speaking to reporters at Chitradurga, Karnataka Chief Minister S M Krishna also spiked
reports about the kidnap.
He said the Special Task Forces (STF) of Karnataka and Tamil Nadu had cornered the outlaw in their
ongoing operations and his movement had been curbed.
"I have full confidence in the staff and government will extend full co-operation to it, in hunting
Veerappan," he said.
