Bangalore: Prominent pontiffs of different mutts on December 18 made a forceful plea
for ordering a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the killing of
Janata Dal – United (JD-U) leader H Nagappa "to bring out the truth".
Speaking at a function on December 18 evening, the seers, mainly from mutts of
Lingayat community to which Nagappa also belonged, said the CBI probe would help
clear the suspicion about the death of Nagappa while being in the custody of forest
brigand Veerappan.
Suttur mutt pontiff Shivarathri Desikendra Swamiji said they believed that Veerappan
had not killed Nagappa as whenever the bandit committed a heinous crime, he never
hesitated to admit it.
Another senior pontiff of Siddaganga mutt, Shivakumara Swamiji, said the government
and Opposition parties should join hands to unravel the mystery behind Nagappa's
death.
Nagappa's son Preethan and son-in-law Kiran Patel were present at the meeting, as
also Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader B S Yediyurappa and JD-U leader in the
Assembly P G R Sindhia.
The Nagappa family has already demanded a CBI enquiry into the killing and the state
government has ordered a judicial probe.
