Bangalore: The Nagappa issue on December 24 rocked the Karnataka Assembly, forcing
its adjournment for the day as vociferous Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) members
blocked proceedings, demanding Chief Minister S M Krishna's resignation and a
Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the Janata Dal – United (JD-U)
leader's killing in the custody of forest brigand Veerappan.
Pandemonium broke out soon after the House met in the morning as BJP members raised
slogans against the government and demanded resignation of Krishna, Home Minister
Mallikarjun Kharge and Agro-Processing Minister Raju Gowda. holding
them 'responsible' for the death of Nagappa.
Repeated pleas by Speaker M V Venkatappa to initiate a discussion on the issue and a
similar appeal by Kharge went in vain and the noisy scenes continued, following
which the House was adjourned for 30 minutes.
As the house reassembled after 90 minutes, the same scene continued with determined
BJP members raising slogans. The Speaker then adjourned the House for the day to
meet again on December 26.
