Bangalore: Senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader B S Yediyurappa on December 25
accused the Janata Dal-United (JD-U) of colluding with the ruling Congress to hush up
the conspiracy behind the former Minister H Nagappa's abduction and his killing while
being held hostage by the forest bandit Veerappan.
Rebutting the JD-U charge that BJP was hand in glove in covering up the kidnap issue
at a press conference in Bangalore, he wanted to know why the JD-U kept the visit of
its leader Ponnachi Mahadevaswamy to forest to meet the bandit under wraps.
Yediyurappa said Mahadevaswamy should have helped police in spotting the Veerappan
hideout and demanded JD-U to make public what transpired between the outlaw and the
emissary.
He reiterated that the Congress government headed by Chief Minister S M Krishna
failed to secure the release of Nagappa.
Yediyurappa said his party was organising 'Bangalore Chalo' programme on December 25
to protest the killing of Nagappa and highlight the failures of the state government.
He said the party would continue the agitation till it brought down the Krishna
government in the state, which he claimed has "failed on all fronts".
He said BJP legislature party would meet on December 25 to decide on its strategy on
the Nagappa issue in both Houses of legislatures.
The BJP created a pandemonium in Assembly and Council on December 24 demanding the
government's resignation and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the
hostage crisis and the death of Nagappa.
The Council chairman B L Shankar suspended 12 BJP members for a day and evicted them
from the House.
