New Delhi: Asserting that the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) had a wide range of
experience in anti-dacoity operations, Director General of the force Trinath Mishra
said on December 27 his force could "accomplish" the task of nabbing the fugitive
forest brigand Veerappan if it was "entrusted" with the job.
"I have full faith in my jawans that if the operation to nab Veerappan is entrusted
to us, we will accomplish the task," Mishra told reporters at the annual press
conference adding
that CRPF had the capability and will to catch him.
To a question on what role CRPF played when it had been deployed earlier this year to
nab Veerappan, Mishra said, "We were deployed at a place which was of no relevance in
nabbing the forest brigand. So we decided to pull out."
He highlighted the role of CRPF in anti-dacoity operations during which dacoits like
Man Singh, Devi Singh were either eliminated or caught.
He, however, made it clear that Tamil Nadu and Karnataka police were well equipped to
tackle Veerappan. "If his gang had been reduced from 150 to six, then they can do the
remaining also easily," Mishra said.
On the second attack on Raghunath Temple in Jammu this year, Mishra said, "After the
first attack, we had asked the temple authority to make separate entry and exit
points to the shrine. Nothing happened and the result was a second attack."
He also said that there was little one could do with suicide squads. "A person, who
has firmed up his mind to die, can create havoc anywhere, inside the temple or on
road or
market place," he said.
