Islamabad: Pakistan President Pervez Musharraf today telephoned Asif Ali Zardari, the husband of assassinated former premier Benazir Bhutto, and conveyed his condolences. While conveying his "profound grief" at Bhutto s death yesterday, Musharraf said he shared the grief of the bereaved family and workers of the Pakistan People s Party.
The entire nation is grieved at the demise of Bhutto, he said. Musharraf also said a high-level inquiry has been ordered to identify those responsible for this "dastardly act of terrorism". He said those people responsible "will be brought to justice".
Bhutto was assassinated by a suicide attacker shortly after she addressed an election rally in Rawalpindi. Zardari and his three teenaged children returned to Pakistan from Dubai last night to attend Bhutto s funeral in her ancestral village in Sindh province today.
