Jammu: Terming the assassination of Benazir Bhutto "a cruel blow" to the peace process in the sub-continent, the Jammu and Kashmir CPI(M) today said that it was a desperate bid to destabilise Pakistan at a time when a poll process in the country was in full swing.
"Undoubtedly, a catastrophic event in the Pakistan history, it has far reaching and serious implications for the future of peace and reconciliation process in the sub-continent," a resolution passed at CPI(M) state committee meeting, under the chairmanship of state secretary M Y Tarigami, said.
"The tragic event has come as a bolt from the blue for the people of Jammu and Kashmir, whose lives have been sunk in blood and tears for the last two decades and who had been looking forward to the logical culmination of the poll process in Pakistan so that the peace movement in the sub-continent could assume more pace and purpose," the resolution said.
The committee said that it sincerely share the grief that has overtaken Pakistan and all the democratic and peace-loving people in the sub-continent at this delicate moment of history and hoped that democratic masses of Pakistan would not allow this grave tragedy to destabilize the civil society.
