Saturday, December 29, 2007 12:25 [IST]

Jammu: Terming the assassiation of former prime minister of Pakistan Benazir Bhutto as a "barbaric act", People s Democratic Front (PDF) today said that it was "war on democracy."

Bhutto's assassination has saddened the people of Pakistan as well as Jammu and Kashmir who have always been yearning for peace and better friendly relations between two neighbouring countries of the sub-continent, PDF president and minister for transport Hakeem Mohammad Yaseen said in a statement here.

Yaseen said that violence has made inroads in democratic institutions which is unfortunate and the efforts are needed to curb and eradicate violence in all forms, especially in the sub-continent.

Conveying his condolences to the immediate members of the deceased leader, Yaseen said that the former president of Pakistan People's Party (PDP) had a very positive role in the political and democratic arena of Pakistan.
